People sometimes suggest that you shouldn’t wear cosplays that don’t “fit your body type”.I know what people are trying to say when they say this, but not only does it sound like “don’t cosplay this character if you’re not in this weight range”, it actually deceives people into thinking if you’re 180 lbs, you shouldn’t be cosplaying a character in a bikini, catsuit, or cutoff shorts, or that thin men shouldn’t be cosplaying big muscular guys, or that short girls can’t cosplay Sailor Pluto. Whether that is intended by these messages is unclear, but I say cosplay whatever character YOU want and do it how you want. What you do to make the costume fit and flatter your body (while maintaining whatever level of modesty desired/required) is your creative freedom, and that’s the magic of being able to make your own cosplays. You get to decide where that hemline ends, or how big to make your tube top.For me, cosplay is about the costume, so make the costume work for you, don’t limit your cosplay choices because of your body versus the character’s body and what they wear. Use your artistic license to make their look yours!
